This time last week I was attending the International Economic Development Council's (IEDC) Marketing & Attraction course at Georgia Tech.
The course was enlightening on topics like the most effective forms of sharing community information, recruiting prospective businesses, and public engagement best practices.
Subject matter went in depth about website development, social media marketing and updating, Geographic Information Systems, and community branding.
The training also featured two very enthusiastic and knowledgeable speakers in Mr. Anatalio Ubalde (founder of GIS Planning) and Mr. Guillermo Mazier with Atlas Advertising. These two gentlemen, hands down, were the best duo of presenters I have seen teach an economic development course.
I debated whether or not I wanted to take the course because its last day fell on my 26th birthday (August 14th). But in hindsight, I am glad I did.
Additionally, I was fortunate to catch a ride with a friend, whose birthday was on the 17th. Moments like those make the trip well worth it. She is an incredible economic developer and a phenomenal person.
I have already started applying what I learned last week.I highly recommend taking this course for any current or aspiring economic development professional.
